I’ve been wrestling with a nagging question lately: What if I only had one book in me?

When I wrote Painting Celia, the words flowed effortlessly, 80,000 words in three weeks. In the next three years of editing, I fell asleep thinking about Celia and León, and woke up eager to dive back in. The narrative took over my imagination, and there was a fire in my belly that only writing could tame.

WHAT'S MAYA BEEN UP TO?

Working on Two Books?

I'm dusting off Sailor's Code, a novel I wrote for Nanowrimo last year while editing Painting Celia. Can I manage to edit it while also writing Kelsey's story? I think so!

I Got a Tattoo

While on a Ladies' Trip to Las Vegas last month, I got my first tattoo! It's a crescent moon for Celia, under my left collarbone, near my heart. Celia will be with me always.

Words & Wine

The local author events at Hip Chicks Do Wine was fantastic, and I met so many cool people! My book was paired with a delicious Pino Grigio—I definitely took home a bottle.

New Flash Fiction Is Up

Only for readers of my blog: I wrote a short flashfic called The Glow from the Screen. It's a quick read full of unresolved longing in a modern setting.

DORY'S CORNER

With winter in full swing, Dory has become an indoor cat.

That is to say, he's always been an indoor cat, but he is allowed to go outside on our secure decks. He just doesn't care for the cold and wet right now!

His favorite daily activity is sleeping on our floofy bed as the sun wheels by past the wall-to-wall bedroom windows.

His second favorite thing is watching my crow friends as they eat cashews outside on the bedroom deck. The crows have no fear of him!

WILL YOU HELP ME?

If you have read (or listened!) to Painting Celia and not yet left a review, would you please write a quick one for me? Reviews are what lead other readers to the book. The most valuable places to leave one are Amazon and Goodreads.

I would be so grateful, my friends!
