Wicked and the Power of Prequels

Abstract painting of a figure in shades of green and blue, showcasing a creative muse with flowing textures and dynamic brush strokes.
I’ll confess, I never saw Wicked. Didn’t even listen to the cast album. But I’ve been filling in my Broadway gaps with friends this year, and I finally watched the new Wicked movie.

I didn’t watch it earlier because one question turned me off: how was I supposed to like a wicked witch? The answer, of course, was backstory, the why of the character.

WHAT'S MAYA BEEN UP TO?

I Read It, I Love It!

I recommend this charming novella, Snowbound Hearts, for anyone! She had no intention of falling in love. And definitely not with him. Again. Five stars.

Beach Retreat

Next month I'm going to a Raging Granny retreat on the Oregon coast. In between the cooking and chatting, I hope to get some quiet time to write or paint.

I'm Writing Prequels

As I say in the blog post above, I'm writing prequels for the main characters in Painting Celia. It's super interesting to write them as 10 year old children!

The Writing Cohort

We've got six regular members in our Cohort now, meeting Thursdays and Sundays. Do you need some accountability in your writing? Join us!

DORY'S CORNER

We've been having visitors, and my office doubles as the guest room. Dory is loving the bed (which is usually a futon couch) as it obviously was set up just for him.

Here he is in a common spot—standing on the bed, staring at me as I work at my computer, waiting for me to get up and give him some attention! Believe me, if I don't do it, the meowing starts.

Soon I'll be turning the bed back into a couch, and Dory will have to sleep on his special blanket there. I, of course, will be laundering all the cat hair off the guest bedding!

WILL YOU HELP ME?

If you have read (or listened!) to Painting Celia and not yet left a review, would you please write a quick one for me? Reviews are what lead other readers to the book. The most valuable places to leave one are Amazon and Goodreads.

I would be so grateful, my friends!
