The time has come—I’m starting work on book two in the Incubadora series.
I’m about to begin my dive into the inner life of Kelsey, a character who brought so much energy and warmth to Painting Celia. Kelsey was a fan favorite, and I knew even before finishing my first book that her story needed to be told. Now, as I begin working on my second novel, Kelsey steps into the spotlight as our new protagonist.
On the surface, Kelsey seems to have it all—her cherished toddler Ruthie, a fulfilling career as the marketing director for Incubadora, and the old gang of friends from book one. But beneath that sunny exterior, she’s grappling with loneliness and uncertainty. As a new mother approaching 40, she’s adjusting to the changes in her life and body, feeling out of place in a life she loves. The question before me is, what does Kelsey truly want? Is it selfish to want more when everything seems perfect?
I’m currently in the brainstorming phase, and I suspect I’ll land on a love triangle between Charlie, her practical baby daddy, and Skye, a flighty new textile artist at Incubadora. But will she choose either of them? Will she be happier on her own? I’m excited to see how Kelsey’s path unfolds.
Finding time to write has been a challenge lately. Between moving last month and my demanding day job, carving out dedicated writing time has been tough. But it’s time to write Kelsey’s story, and I’m determined to make it happen. I’m looking forward to establishing a new writing routine and forming a weekly writing cohort to keep myself accountable.
